Michael Jackson – “Remember The Time” 1992
When this video came out, that’s when I knew Michael was bigger than life.
I wasn’t around for “Off The Wall” or “Thriller”, but I did get to witness Jackson’s “Remember The Time” music video, stopping television for it’s premiere — the like the President of the Untied States.
We’re missing big, premiere music videos on television. In today’s world when an artist wants to release a music video or an album, they publish it on Youtube or iTunes. Music videos aren’t as ‘must-see’ like they use to be — where if you missed out on it, you missed out what’s going on in the world. Now you can watch any video at any time.
“Remember The Time” was Jackson’s — really — last big music video. After that, he wasn’t the same anymore. He did do a big video for “Rock Your World” in 2001, but it wasn’t as big as this one, or the videos he’s done prior in his career.
When I first saw this video, I realized how much of an icon Michael was. I never seen a nine-minute music video like this, with this many stars like Magic Johnson and Eddie Murphy. It was almost like a movie.
The dance choreography was pretty dope, too. The Egyptian style of dancing was unique and many other moves were unleashed for the first time in this video.
